October 23, 2026
During its October 22, 2026, Board Meeting, the Chicago Board of Education (Board) voted unanimously to approve a collective bargaining agreement with UNITE HERE Local 1. The union represents approximately 1,700 Chicago Public Schools Nutrition Support Services employees, including lunchroom attendants and cashiers, porters, cooks, and associate lunchroom managers. The multi-year agreement is effective July 1, 2025 – June 30, 2029, and includes a minimum pay increase, additional workdays, more staffing, and longevity pay to recognize years of service.
“We are pleased to have reached this agreement with UNITE HERE Local 1 and deeply grateful for the dedicated employees who serve our students each day. Their hard work makes a meaningful difference in our school communities, and this agreement reflects our commitment to valuing and supporting them while ensuring our students receive the quality meals they deserve,” said Board President Sean B. Harden.
